Windows Update Error 8024402C

Post by Paul Pritsis » Thu Apr 20, 2017 12:15 pm

There are a few scenarios when this may occur.

1) Anti-virus and/or firewall software is blocking the update service from working.
- Disable or uninstall your anti-virus program and then retry the update.

2) VPN or proxy service is enabled and blocking the update service from working.
- Disable the proxy in Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections... set it to Automatic.

1) The computer may have been part of a domain or work organization that the administrator placed restrictions on updating.
a. Edit the registry by running RegEdit from the command prompt.
b. Navigate to the following registry key:
Local Machine/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/Windows Update
c. You may see a folder called 'AU'. Rename it to 'AU.bak"
d. Also check the following registry key:
Current User/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer
e. Look for a REG_DWORD called 'NoWindowsUpdate'. If it is set to 1, edit the value and change it to 0.

Restart the computer and try the updates again.
