Each time you restart Windows, Wingding type fonts replace the standard fonts on the desktop and other locations such as the taskbar.

This may be caused by corrupted font files and/or registry entries.

1. Copy the contents of a C:\Windows\Fonts directory from a PC that is not suffering from this problem and paste them into the afflicted C:\Windows\Fonts directory on the affected machine.

2. Open up Regedit on the affected machine.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\
4. Export the entire Fonts group to a temp location.
5. Delete the Fonts group from the registry.
6. Exit RegEdit and Reboot.

If the process did not work, repeat the above steps and also export and delete the groups Font Management, Font Drivers, FontLink, FontMapper, and FontSubstitutes.

AGAIN copy the contents of a C:\Windows\Fonts directory from a PC that is not suffering from this problem and paste them into the afflicted C:\Windows\Fonts directory.
